A.A. Service, our Third Legacy: Common terms and abbreviations

GSR General Service Representative. Single member who is sent to represent their Home Group’s voice in business matters at the District and Area. Must report back to their Home Group matters concerning the District, Area and GSO.

Alternate GSR – The person who fills in for the GSR at business meetings or Assemblies should the GSR not be able to attend.

DCMDistrict Committee Member. Single member who is sent to represent their District’s voice in business matters. Must report back to their respective Districts matters concerning the Distric Area and GSO.

Alternate DCM – The person who fills in for the DCM at business meetings and Assemblies should the DCM not be able to attend.

Delegate – A single person who is sent to the General Service Conference in NY, representing the voice (their designated Area. Our Delegate represents Virginia in its entirety).

Alternate Delegate – The person who fills in for the Area Delegate at business meetings, Assemblies or the General Service Conference should the Delegate not be able to attend.

VACVirginia Area Committee. The business entity representing the entire voice of Virginia’s Are: officers, DCM’s, GSR’s and Committee Chairmen.

GSOGeneral Services Office. The main headquarters, located in New York City, where the business matters concerning AA world-wide are centered.

GSC General Service Conference. Annual business meeting of Delegates, Trustees and GSO representatives from the United States and Canada to voice their respective Area and Regiona views.

CPCCooperation with the Professional Community. Committee designed to inform professionals, the field of medicine, religion, comts, etc. of the affects of alcoholism and what AA can/cannot offer.

CF Correctional Facilities. Committee designed to inform jails, prisons and detention centers of the affects of alcoholism and what AA can/ cannot offer. Also facilitate the entry of AA members inside jail and prison facilities to carry the message of AA.

PI Public Information. Committee designed to inform the general public of the affects of alcoholism and what AA can / cannot offer.

TF Treatment Facilities. Committee designed to inform alcohol rehabilitation facilities of what AA can/ cannot offer.

IT – Information Technologies coordinator. Single person who keeps inventory of the computers and technological equipment owned by the Virginia Area Committee. Also makes recommendations for replacement and updating equipment.
